چکیده
J Bacteriol Mycol Open Access 2016, 2(1): 00016 an opportunistic fungal disease endemic in south East Asia [3]. Pandemic of AIDS has virtually acted as trigger to rapid spread of penicilliosis marneffei as opportunistic infection or secondary infection. It is also known as AIDS defining illness among patients who have either lived or visited endemic areas regardless of time period since exposure [3].

Disseminated Penicillium marneffei infection in human immunodeficiency virus-infected children.
Disseminated infection with the fungus Penicillium marneffei is one of the most common opportunistic infections in human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) disease in northern Thailand. We report the clinical, laboratory and therapeutic features of 21 human immunodeficiency virus-infected children with disseminated P. marneffei who were prospectively followed. Significant clinical and laboratory feat...

Penicilliosis is an infection caused by Penicillium marneffei, which is an opportunistic fungal pathogen endemic in areas such as Southeast Asia. It is usually found in patients infected with human immunodeficiency virus (HIV). P. marneffei is present in soil and is also associated with bamboo rats. Patients with AIDS are particularly susceptible to infection. Thus, penicilliosis is an importan...

Fungal infection of bone by Penicillium marneffei is rare. We report on a case of Penicillium marneffei infection in a Filipino woman, which involved multiple soft-tissue abscesses and infection of the axial skeleton. Early diagnosis and treatment of this potentially reversible disease is emphasised. Such an approach is essential to prevent bony destruction from becoming too advanced and, more ...
متن کاملImmune Restoration Syndrome with disseminated Penicillium marneffei and Cytomegalovirus co-infections in an AIDS patient
BACKGROUND Penicillium marneffei is a dimorphic fungus, endemic in South-east Asia. The fungus causes severe disease in immunocompromised patients such as AIDS. However, no case of immune restoration disease of Penicillium marneffei is reported in literature from a non-endemic area. CASE PRESENTATION We report the first case of Penicillium marneffei and Cytomegalovirus infection manifesting a...

BACKGROUND Penicillium marneffei is the only dimorphic member of the genus and is an emerging pathogenic fungus that can cause fatal systemic mycosis. Penicillium marneffei disseminates hematogenously to other locations. Penicillium marneffei infection most commonly involves the skin, lungs, and reticuloendothelial system, including the bone, bone marrow, joints, lymph nodes, pericardium, liver...
